I felt totally exposed. And so ashamed. Nothing had happened. That’s what made it worse. I thought, “Is this just how life is going to feel now that I’m sober?”

Fast forward a few months—I’m at a meditation retreat. The teacher says, “Just focus on your breath.” But I couldn’t. All I could feel was this throbbing pain in my body from an injury. It was loud. Consuming. Impossible to ignore.

Then something unexpected happened. Instead of trying to escape the sensation… I went straight into it. I stopped resisting. I got curious. And in that exact moment—I felt instant relief. A wave of calm I hadn’t felt in years washed over me.That was the spark.

I started experimenting with this approach—on my anxiety, my guilt, my shame, the loneliness and grief that had haunted me in sobriety. And it kept working.

It was like I’d found a hidden key to my nervous system. A back door to emotional freedom. And people started noticing. They’d ask me, “What are you doing differently?” So in 2012, I started teaching what I’d discovered.

Now, over a decade later, this method has helped thousands of students regulate their nervous systems, reclaim their confidence, and feel at home in their sober skin.

Nope. Most of my students are sober, but this isn’t a sobriety-only space. I’ve had students join simply because they’re ready to stop white-knuckling anxiety and start living with more peace and confidence.
